Watling Street is one of the most important ancient roads of England. We live just off of it in Kilburn, northwest London. In this blog we record our travels along it - from Wroxter to Dover and all stops between - because roads are for walking, and because this one has been walked for longer than most by more people than most. Which is something best remembered by doing the same.
You can expect two parts history to one part travelogue with a healthy dash of pub reviews. Areas of special interest include early modern London, hagiography, waterways, Charles Dickens, brownfield sites, and real ale. There will be photographs, anecdotes, and the occasional fact.
Everywhere along Watling Street is brilliant, even Brent Cross. Here are some of the things that we have seen.
